The health care industry faces unique challenges requiring the navigation of a maze of overlapping and often contradictory legal and regulatory requirements. Our health care team represents clients in a broad array of health care regulatory matters, including billing and reimbursement issues, fraud and abuse concerns, licensure requirements, regulatory compliance, and daily dealings with federal and state oversight agencies and insurance companies. Hospitality >

Our hospitality team brings a wealth of knowledge in representing clients in the restaurant industry, whether franchisees setting up their first restaurant, entrepreneurs looking to grow their concept with a franchise model, or established operations looking to manage their rapidly growing operations. It is important to have counsel come along side participants in the hospitality industry to make sure the proper corporate governance and tax foundations are established early on and maintained to give the owner and management the flexibility they need to efficiently distribute their creative concepts. From protecting new concepts, to incentivizing local operators, to anticipating and responding to employment law issues, our attorneys understand the many different risks that are unique to this industry and how to effectively respond.

Insurance >

Our insurance team offers a unique and focused approach in providing regulatory, tax and transactional advice to those involved in the heavily-regulated insurance industry, whether traditional property & casualty or health carriers or alternative risk vehicles such as captive insurance companies. We have significant experience working with the Alabama Department of Insurance as well as navigating the licensing and compliance laws of other jurisdictions, both onshore and offshore. We have represented established insurance companies as well as start-ups working in the insurtech space. Our team also represents those providing services to the insurance industry, including managing general agents and captive managers. Having experience representing the many participants in the insurance industry, we bring an understanding of the legal issues involved in the creation and distribution of insurance products, particularly when insurance companies and agencies operate across state lines.

We have helped initiate the growth of the captive insurance industry in Alabama, forming the Alabama Captive Association as well as assisting in the drafting of the 2016 changes to the Alabama Captive Insurers Act.
